SSSI Marshland Restoration

Muxton Marsh, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) required the clearance of trees of various sizes that had grown into the marshland. The self-seeded trees had invaded into the marshland threatening the health of the marsh. The work for the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust required these trees to be removed mechanically using a low ground pressure machine to minimise environmental disturbance with excess material mulched wherever possible to reduce the risk of regrowth. Any root balls removed created small pools that would encourage aquatic life and habitat areas. Works were completed to programme October 2023.
