Revival of Garden Pool at Spetchley Park Gardens

The Garden Pool, which was created out of the moat that ringed the original manor house and extended several times, has never been dredged before. Years of accumulated silt, caused by matter washed in from the surrounding land and decaying vegetation, and changes to the local hydrology has meant that the level of water has been decreasing and reducing in quality. At the same time the banks have been eroding and retaining walls have been decaying and so the Pool has lost much of its original design and appeal. The poor quality of water has also been detrimental to wildlife. WM Longreach is leading the project to restore the pond with removal of 8000 tonnes of silt, repair of embankments, retaining walls, and bridges.
