River Avon Fish Refuge

Greatly improved fish spawning areas were created by the construction of a new fish refuge area in an existing natural depression adjacent to the River Avon. Located near the village of Wasperton, this provided sheltered deep water feeding off the river and a fish friendly habitat for juvenile fish and macro invertebrates. As well as enhanced floodwater storage, woody debris (root plates) were anchored within the fry refuge. Specialist permits ensured these sensitive works considered the adjacent valuable marsh area.
